6UP-the Runs per Over SMS Game – supports the Steve Waugh Foundation Global Share

Steve Waugh AO, the highly successful former Australian Cricket captain, today announced the launch of the Steve Waugh Foundation Global and it’s association with 6UP, the runs per over SMS game played via mobile. Through this association, each time someone plays the game of 6UP, a percentage will go as charity to the Steve Waugh Foundation Global.

The Steve Waugh Foundation Global has made ‘a commitment to a coordinated approach to service, identification, treatment and cure of rare diseases and illnesses primarily focusing on children.’ The first project is the Udayan-Home for the Rehabilitation of Leprosy sufferers in India.

Inspired by the integrity, dedication and commitment of Steve Waugh, iplayup/CRICKET is proud to support Steve and his Foundation, “We are happy that our involvement will help Steve and his Foundation do more in India. A company’s standard is not only measured by their bottom line but also by how they benefit those around them.” said George Tomeski Co Founder PLAYUP and Managing Partner iplayup/Cricket.

While talking about iplayup/CRICKET and 6UP, George Tomeski added, “The mobile is changing the way fans watch sport and PLAYUP is at the forefront of these shifts and the opportunities they bring for fans and sports. Co-founder Luke Bunbury and I established PLAYUP believing that the mobile phone could be a tremendous way for fans to get truly involved in live sport.”

6UP is our flagship cricket game – it’s a simple game. As you’re watching cricket, ask yourself ‘How many runs will the batsmen score in the next over?’ Then to participate, just SMS in how you see these runs playing out across every ball in the over. At the end of the over, all 6UP players are ranked (and rewarded) according to their skill in predicting 6, 5 4 balls or the right RPO.

“While designing the 6UP game, we analyzed more than 20,000 overs of cricket. It highlighted distinctive patterns and showed that existing conditions give players an insight into how the game or over is likely to turn out. As a result a person is able to apply their skill and knowledge when determining the outcome.” George further added while talking about 6UP.

Steve Waugh AO, a passionate supporter of the game added, “6UP is going to add something for the spectator watching the game. It’s interactive, it’s fun and it’s about playing against someone else and testing your skill!”

6UP has been legally classified in India as a game of ‘predominant’ skill, and as such it is not regarded as gambling or betting. More to the point, there is nothing about 6UP that constitutes betting or gambling.

With 6UP there are no bets or odds involved, and the participants are only charged a premium SMS rate of Rs.5 which is very similar to other Mobile VAS products (Rs.3-6). In addition, players get lot more added benefits like access an online cricket community, statistics and facts, live updates, services similar to other mobile VAS products at comparable rates. Further, to ensure no wrong play, 6UP allows fans to send only 20 plays per innings.

While playing 6UP, the participant has a major role in deciding their success as their understanding of live match conditions such as the current run rate, the RPO for the last few overs, batsman, bowler, field placements, match momentum, weather, score results off each ball etc are critical. 6UP is not a game of pure chance as the player has an ability to affect their rate of success. The predictions are sent against the live match and only for the over immediately subsequent to the entry, allowing a participant to consider all prevailing match conditions before making an entry for the over.

6UP is a unique game, without peer or precedent. PLAYUP have been meticulous in ensuring it’s game genuinely adds to the fun of watching cricket & that it’s commercial presence and contribution will be a powerful and positive one for fans and the community.
